新茶の摘採から学ぶ掛川茶の現場

Learning about Kakegawa tea from picking new tea

I went to the tea garden of Chittö's partner, Mr. Matsushita, to see how fresh tea was being picked.

On the way to the tea plantation, you can enjoy the clear mountain air and the pleasant morning sun. When you arrive, you will be greeted with a spectacular view.
The tea fields were so beautiful with the scent of green tea under the warm sunlight, and the silence soothed my soul.

The work begins with winding and collecting the cheesecloth, which is used to make covered tea, and using a riding-type plucking machine.
*Covered tea is grown by covering the tea plant with cheesecloth for about a week to block sunlight. By not exposing the tea to sunlight, the tea leaves will contain less catechin, which is the cause of bitterness, and more theanine, which is the source of umami.

Because we were working on a vast site, we discussed routes each time, and we were constantly communicating and cooperating.
It was also impressive that even though the work was difficult, everyone was in a cheerful mood from beginning to end.
Thank you for your detailed explanation and kind response despite your busy schedule.

In addition, a manual winding machine is used to wind the cheesecloth, and the students were able to learn about the differences in machinery, tools, and picking process depending on the location of the tea plantation.

Tea plantations in Kakegawa City are often located on mountain slopes, so the work there can be even more difficult, and you can feel the hardships faced by the farmers.

When you are in a tea plantation observing such work, you can feel the hard work and passion of the farmers.

There is a lot of hard work to be done throughout the year, but I feel that thanks to this work, this beautiful landscape is preserved and the taste and aroma of Kakegawa tea becomes even more profound.

Other tea farmers pass by on the road through the tea plantations, and I always ask people who are meeting me for the first time, ``How's the tea going this year?'' ``It's hot today, but please work hard.'' ' Conversation over tea naturally arose with a sense of mutual respect and support.

By interacting with people who love tea and nature, you can enjoy the deliciousness of Kakegawa tea even more.
By visiting tea plantations, I was able to discover new attractions and ways to enjoy them.

Through this tour, I got a deeper understanding of the story behind the creation of Chittö's products, and without forgetting my original intentions, I felt once again that this is a product that I want to deliver to everyone with confidence.

Enjoy Chittö's Japanese tea with all five senses while imagining the beautiful scenery of a tea plantation.
